About ALLMI

The Operators' Forum is a rapidly growing division of ALLMI, which is dedicated specifically to owners of lorry loaders. Its members range from some of the biggest fleet owners in the UK to small, local businesses, running just one or two vehicles. No matter what your size or field of business, if you operate lorry mounted cranes, membership of the Operators' Forum will benefit your company.

The benefits of Forum membership include:

  • Working in Partnership with the Health & Safety Executive (HSE)
Representatives of the HSE attend Forum General Meetings and have provided members with guidance on a variety of important issues, such as working at height, falls from vehicles, the legislative requirements surrounding the use of lorry loaders and safety alerts resulting from accidents. The HSE will attend the next Operators’ Forum meeting on the 19th September in order to provide members with information on its forthcoming ‘Working at Height’ campaign. In addition, ALLMI has close links with the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA), which uses ALLMI to inform members of its requirements in relation to lorry loader inspections.

  • Support from Loader Crane Manufacturers
Forum members benefit from ALLMI’s support from the loader crane manufacturers.  Via General Meetings and also ALLMI’s downloadable publications, members receive advice and guidance on various aspects of lorry loader use, including valuable information on maintenance regimes, inspection reporting, thorough examinations and bridge bashing.

  • Interchange of Ideas and Opinions between Manufacturers / Services Agents and Forum Members
This takes place partly via General Meetings, but also by the Forum having a representative on both the ALLMI Technical and Training Committees, which between them produce guidance on all aspects of lorry loader use.  In fact, the Forum has already had a direct involvement in the development of the recently released ALLMI Slinger / Signaller course, the revision of the ALLMI Code of Practice, and the training programme for thorough examinations and load tests of lorry loaders.

  • Guidance & Consultation on Standards & Legislation Affecting the Industry
ALLMI has been instrumental in the writing of legislation and standards affecting the industry and was heavily involved with the British Standards Institute for the preparation of BS 7121 Part 4, the Code of Practice for the Safe Use of Lorry Loaders.  ALLMI will soon be taking part in the forthcoming revision of Part 4 and is currently involved with the changes being made to EN12999, the European Standard for loader cranes.  Due to ALLMI’s involvement with the HSE, the loader crane manufacturers and the British, European and International Loader Crane Standards Committees, Forum members not only have the opportunity to consult upon and possibly influence forthcoming changes in standards and legislation affecting the industry, they also have access to advice and guidance on all aspects of lorry loader use, such as health and safety matters, documentation, technical issues, legislation compliance and operator training.

  • Lorry Loader Training Commended by the HSE
ALLMI runs the UK’s only lorry loader operator training programme
to be commended by the HSE and to have been awarded its ‘Working in Partnership’ logo and commendation.  Not only do Forum members have access to this training, they also contribute towards the development of the scheme by working with the ALLMI Training Standards Committee.  In addition to the HSE’s commendation, ALLMI has a seat on the CPCS Management Committee and is about to form an agreement that will see ALLMI cardholders eligible to apply for blue, CPCS Competence cards.  Confirmation of this agreement is expected to be announced at the forthcoming Forum General meeting on the 19th September.

  • Website Promotion & Facilities for Members
All Forum members are promoted through the ALLMI website, which lists each company’s contact details, together with information on the services they offer.  The website also features a password protected members' section, which includes a download area, containing documents from the HSE and VOSA, all information coming from the Forum General meetings, legislation relevant to lorry loaders, and draft standards for members to comment upon. The members' section also includes an online discussion area, which allows members to raise issues and discuss common problems.

  • Enhance Your Corporate Image
The ALLMI name is associated with safety, standards and quality, whether it’s in relation to training, crane installations and service, or the running of vehicles.  Not only are members associated with ALLMI via its website promotion, but they are also able to utilise the ALLMI Vehicle Sticker (pictured right) and in addition, are provided with an annual Membership Certificate.

  • Group Buying
Operators' Forum members also benefit from a Buyers Co-operative, which allows companies to utilise the group buying power within the Forum membership.  The first product to be introduced for the Co-operative was insurance and some members have already saved thousands of pounds on their premiums, as well as receiving improved levels of cover.  Other products and services for the Co-operative are currently being investigated.
